This was a Masters project at KISD (Köln International School of Design), where we worked together with the Ludwig Museum for the event concept Langer Donnerstag (Long Thursday). On the first Thursday of every month, numerous galleries, museums, art venues and cultural sites in the city open their doors until the evening hours free of charge for Cologne (Germany) residents. The project intended that we updated the museum’s communication for the event, considering posters, social media and physical materials for the space.
The "S" shape of the logo developed was to bring the idea of movement, dynamics and longevity, since the event lasts until late hours. The typography also dialogs with the concept, adding values like kinesis and playfulness. The colors are saturated and contrasting to attract people to the event creating, as a result, a visual identity that dialogs with the museum's, but stand by itself as an specific event.
The Museum publishes an event poster every semester and posts about the event every month. Therefore, a proposal was developed to use two main colors that would change every 6 months. There is also a secondary poster, displaying a work of art from the museum's collection. The posters could be communicated in different languages, given that it is a very international city and there was a need to reach the majority of residents. Finally, if you need posters for specific exhibitions at the event, there is also another layout option.
Proposals were developed for social media posts in different formats, dialoguing with the Museum's existing networks. Finally, different forms of communication in physical media were also created, as well as solutions to problems observed at the event, such as the map and/or adhesive tape to solve the difficulty of getting around the museum to find the various activities that were taking place on the day.
Orientation system. Since the program always change, the proposal is a map in a metal plate. Every month the program would be printed in an A4 and attached to the map using magnetic paper. "S" shape magnets would be used to indicate where the events are happening.
