Unmasking Deception - have you seen through?, is a self-published zine made to discuss the idea of propaganda in western democracies. Based on the Propaganda Model (conceptual model in political economy advanced) proposed by Noam Chomsky and Edward S. Herman in the book Manufacturing Consent (1988), the zine presents the 5 filters in which corporate media operates on: ownership, advertising, sourcing, flak and fear. It seeks to explain how the media manufactures our consent for economic, social and political policies.
The goal of the zine is to work as a sort of a reminder, or a check-list, when consuming news. No news nor sources are objective. Those filters are not to be seen as generalization, but rather as a reminder. In moments of extreme thoughts and political polarization, we believe we need to be careful of not only finding fault in the other side and be able to have self-criticism in our political context.
The zine was printed in the risography in A3 paper. In the back, there's a poster.
